Preparing for Your Visit

The following guidelines will hasten the diagnosis and treatment of incoming patients:

• Please do not feed your pet after midnight the night before your appointment unless otherwise directed.

• Ask your family veterinarian to e-mail, fax, or provide you with prior lab work, imaging reports, and all records related to your pet’s problem or illness.

• Write down or bring any medications that your pet is taking, including how often and what dose.

At your initial visit, an IndyVet doctor will examine your pet, review their medical history, and discuss their condition in detail. The team will then recommend any necessary diagnostic testing or treatment options tailored to your pet’s needs. Many pets can be managed on an outpatient basis, while others may require hospitalization for further diagnostics, monitoring, and ongoing medical care.

We highly encourage family visits whenever possible during hospitalization as they can help reduce patient stress, encourage appetite, and provide comfort. In somem cases, visitation may need to be limited or temporarily postponed to allow for critical treatments, procedures, or ongoing medical care. To help us coordinate the best time for your visit, please speak with your pet’s attending doctor or care team.

Patients are discharged on an appointment basis. Complete written instructions will be reviewed with each pet owner at the time of discharge to address any questions they may have regarding patient care at home.
