Pet Tips

Reading your pet's body language
The chances are, your pet has been communicating with you since the first day you brought them home and you may not have even realized it! The following are behaviors your companion animal may be exhibiting to try to "talk" to you.

- If your cat's whiskers are pointing toward you with a slight curve to them, the cat is embracing you, however, if they are pulled back close to her face, your cat is feeling guarded.

- If a dog's tail is hanging low, it could be a sign the dog is sad or depressed, however if it is low and to one side, it may be a sign the dog is feeling sick. If a dog's tail is upright and slightly curved, it's a sign he's feeling happy.

- If a cat's tail is hanging loosely down and away from the body, it is a sign that the cat is content, however, if it is flicking it around quickly, it is a sign that the cat is angry.

- A dog who's head is jutting forward, ears back and slightly "frowning" is telling you he's suspicious of something. If his head is cocked to one side, and his brow is furrowed, it's his way of saying "I'm confused".

- If a cat's fur is standing up and her back is arched, she is ready to fight.

- A dog who's chest is low to the ground, while his rear end is up in the air and his paws slap at the ground, is trying to tell you "It's time to play". You can do the same to let your dog know you want to play too.
