12th annual Original Pet Carnival
Sunshine and fun for the two and four-legged

On Saturday, July 10, 2010 not a raindrop will be in sight as hundreds are expected to walk, on both two and four legs, into the 12th annual Original Pet Carnival. The Pet Carnival, hosted by the Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center (IVEC), will take place from 11am to 3pm at lVEC, 5425 Victory Drive, located just off I-465 South at the Emerson Ave. exit - near Beech Grove.

"Even in monsoons the Pet Carnival attracts between 1,200 to 1,500 pets and their owners," laughed Dr. James Speiser, founder of the Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center, recalling the wet and wild weather experienced during the past two years on Pet Carnival day.

The Original Pet Carnival brings together retailers, shelters and other members of the animal world in a fun atmosphere created especially for pets and their owners. This year promises to be no different, boasting a wide variety of pet vendors, rescues and shelters.

"Each year, we invite the public to bring their pets of every shape, size and species," explained Speiser.

The best news... it's FREE to attend! IVEC asks that attendees bring an item(s) to donate to one of four local animal shelters: Cats Haven, Humane Society of Johnson County, Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, and Our Lil' Bit of Heaven. A list of items needed can be found here.

Guests can explore booths from more than 50 local retailers, vendors and rescue organizations; learn more about area shelters; observe demonstrations; and participate in either of the pet competitions – Best Dressed and Best Pet Trick.

There will be a Splash Zone to help the furry patrons cool off, and a Creative Expressions area for pets to create original artwork for their owners.

"With the addition of some great specialty vendors and events, we hope to see a wider variety of pets at this year's Carnival," Speiser continued.

IVEC will also provide plenty of treats to go around for all guests, no matter whether two or four-legged.
