Dry winter skin
The following tips can help you care for your pet's dry skin in the colder months. - Bathe your dog as little as possible during winter months, the harshness of the soaps can further dry out their skin and promote flaking. Cat's clean themselves daily and should only be bathed to remove grease, dirt or oil. Follow your pets bath with a moisturizing shampoo or rinse made specifically for pets.

- Brush your pet frequently to remove dander and excess hair.

- Make sure you're feeding them quality foods to provide the nutrition necessary to promote healthy skin and fur.

- Consult with IVMC about any vitamins or other treatments.

- Remember, pet's may scratch themselves for many reasons, what appears to be dry skin may require treatment by IVMC. If your pet is licking or biting themselves to the point of hair loss, you should bring them to IVMC to have one of our veterinarians make sure it is not a sign of a larger problem.
