Joe Debrota, DVM



Laura GoldmanDr. Joe DeBrota grew up in Indianapolis, and dedicated himself to working with animals from a very young age. His first job in high school was at a local pet store working in the fish and exotics department. After this, he worked as kennel attendant at a veterinary clinic in Carmel, and then as a veterinary assistant in a mixed animal practice in Lebanon, Indiana. He completed his undergraduate study at Purdue University earning a bachelor's degree in animal science.

Dr. DeBrota received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Purdue University in 2009. In 2013, Dr. Debrota graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Western University College of Veterinary Medicine. During veterinary school he was an active member of the student government and an officer in the on-campus exotics club. He created and maintained the Lafeber Company student representative program at Western University, and also conducted a research project investigating the population decline of raptors (birds of prey) in southern California. In July of 2013 he started his internship at IndyVet. His primary interests are in emergency and avian medicine. Dr. DeBrota is also an avid freshwater fish keeper and aspires to provide ornamental fish veterinary care in the future.

Dr. DeBrota is happily married to his wife, Katie, who is also a veterinarian. Their family consists of their toddler daughter and furry and feathered pets. They have a Chinese crested, a pug, two Sphynx cats, and three parrots.
