Doggone heat failed to spoil IVEC's Pet Carnival

Doggone heat failed to spoil IVEC's Pet Carnival The Indianapolis Emergency Veterinary Center (IVEC) hosted its 13th annual Pet Carnival Saturday, July 9, which was a barking success as it welcomed over 40 vendors and special attractions like America's Got Talent Tony Hoard and his K9 Friz B Crew, pet psychic Vicki Beaman, Scooby Doo and nearly 1,200 guests and furry friends.

This year's Pet Carnival had the largest crowd yet, both human and animal alike. "People poured in from the moments the gates opened, and we had an unbelievable turnout for our two pet competitions," Dr. Speiser said, owner and founder of IVEC.

"It's amazing how many animals can unite all in one place!" Dr. Speiser exclaimed.

The Best Dressed Pet and Best Pet Trick competitions were judged by Scooby Doo, Indiana's weatherman Paul Poteet, Greg Magee of the Indiana State Police and Adam Garrett of Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC). Max, the pirate dog, won the Best Dressed Pet competition, while Baxter, the dog who's got the beat, danced his way into first place for Best Pet Trick.

Other special features included a caricaturist who provided custom drawings of owners and their pets, mini-horse rides provided by A Critter's Chance, pet portraits by Studio V Photography and a "paw print" area to make homemade animal art.

"The Splash Zone was a huge hit this year and was a great way for pets to cool off in the heat!" Dr. Speiser said.

Amongst all the fun, IVEC collected hundreds of pet-related items, and almost $150 in cash donations to split between IACC and the Humane Society of Johnson County.

Garrett, community outreach coordinator for IACC, not only walked away with potential parents for his adoptable dogs, but also was the recipient of the 2011 IVEC PETS Award. The PETS Award was created by IVEC to honor individuals and/or organizations that go above and beyond the call of duty in animal care and commitment.

IVEC would like to thank the participating vendors including: A Critter's Chance, A Dog's Spot, Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership (ARPO), Best Friend Pet Care, Inc, Bully Buddys, Cats Haven, Dragoncat Designs, Exotic Animal Rescue & Pet Sanctuary (EARPS), FACE, Fans of Barbaro, Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue, Great American Spillproof Products, Greyhound Pets of America, Homeward Bound Pet Memorial, Humane Society of Johnson County, IACC, Indiana Bulldog Rescue, Indiana Chapter House Rabbit Society, Invisible Fence of Central Indiana, Knits & Things, Love on a Leash, Miniature Pinscher Rescue Group, Moochie & Co, Nature's Select of Central Indiana, Odenhaus Kitchen, Paws Stop, Pet Angel, Pet Pals TV, Pet Supplies Plus, Pork Chomps, Robin's Nest, Scout and Zoe's, Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana and Trupanion.
