13th Annual Original Pet Carnival Sunshine
and fun for the two and four-legged

Big, small, furry or feathery, the two and four-legged can find all sorts of fun in the sun at the 13th Annual Original Pet Carnival on Saturday, July 9 from 11 am to 3 pm. The carnival is hosted by the Indianapolis Veterinary Center at 5425 Victory Drive, just off I-465 south at the Emerson Ave. exit, near Beech Grove.

Each year, Pet Carnival attracts over 1,500 furry friends and their companions, and brings pet vendors, shelters and rescues together to educate, entertain and enjoy all aspects of the animal world.

"We always invite the public to bring a wide variety of pets of all different shapes and sizes," said Dr. James Speiser owner and founder of IVEC. "You'll find yourself surrounded by an animal kingdom—dogs, rabbits, horses and birds will all be in attendance!"

Guests can explore booths from more than 40 local retailers, vendors and rescue organizations, like Moochie & Co., Trupanion, Great American Spill Proof Products, Best Friends Pet Care, Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana and Greyhound Pets of America, just to name a few. Animals will be available for adoption from multiple organizations.

Owners are welcome to suit up their pets in costume and showcase their hidden talents for the Best Dressed Pet and Best Pet Trick competitions, judged by Pet Pals TV host, Patty Spitler. Participants can sign up at the beginning of the event to ensure a spot on the catwalk.

IVEC is very excited to have a nationally and locally known entertainer perform at this year's event, Dr. Speiser said. "Tony Hoard and his K9 Friz B Crew, semi-finalists on America's Got Talent, are guaranteed to jump, catch and flip their way into your hearts," Speiser exclaimed.

Events and demonstrations you won't want to miss include:

  • 11:30 am: Tony Hoard & K9 Friz B Crew
  • 12 pm: Indy K9 College
  • 12:15 pm: Best Dressed Competition
  • 12:45 pm: Indiana State Police K9 Unit
  • 1 pm: Best Trick Competition and presentation of P.E.T.S. Award
  • 1:30 pm: Tony Hoard & K9 Friz B Crew
  • 2 pm: Kasey, the Koorsen Fire & Life Safety Dog
  • 2:30 pm: Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Mounted Patrol.
Special features also include Scooby Doo, a pet psychic, free caricatures, professional pet photographer and a "Paw Print" creative expressions area where pets can create original artwork. In addition, there will be a Splash Zone to help all furry patrons cool off and cornhole for handlers.

Guests can come prepared to give blood with the Indiana Blood Center mobile as they find out how their companions can also save lives with IVEC's canine and feline blood donor program, which is used at veterinary practices for transfusions during emergency treatments. Pet Supplies Plus will award coupons to all donors. Tours of IVEC's 21,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility will be offered as well.

Pet owners will have the opportunity to get their pets microchipped at IVEC for only $25 during the event, which includes both the microchip and the registration.

Pet Carnival is free to the public and includes plenty of treats to go around for all guests, whether two or four-legged. IVEC asks attendees to donate an item(s) to help assist two area animal shelters: Humane Society of Johnson County and Indianapolis Animal Care & Control.

All pets must be on leashes or in some type of carrier so all parties can enjoy a fun-filled, emergency-free day. Event is set to take place rain or shine.
