IVEC opens doors of new location to vet community,
general public during May 6 grand opening festivities
An afternoon full of fun and festivity is planned for Sunday, May 6 when Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center (IVEC) welcomes guests to its brand new home at 5425 Victory Drive.
Members of the local veterinary medicine community will be greeted between 12 noon and 2 pm, followed by festivities for the general public from 2 to 4. The new location of Central Indiana’s original 24-hour emergency and critical care clinic for pets is just two blocks east of IVEC’s former Victory Drive site (immediately south and east of the I-465 & South Emerson Avenue interchange, on Indianapolis’ southeast side).
Tours of the new 21,000 square foot animal clinic top the list of grand opening activities. Guests will enjoy rare behind-the-scenes looks at this state-of-the-medical-art facility and its wide variety of high-tech diagnostic and treatment areas and equipment. Included on the tours will be IVEC’s 13 exam rooms, three surgical suites, CT scanner, digital radiography and ultrasound equipment, and physical rehabilitation facilities designed exclusively for animals.
Visitors also will see the new home of IVEC’s renowned Canine & Feline Blood Donor Program. This program provides blood for surgeries, transfusions and other procedures carried out not only at IVEC but at other veterinary medicine facilities throughout the Midwest. In recognition of this program for dogs and cats, IVEC has partnered with the Indiana Blood Center, whose Bloodmobile will be on site from 12 noon to 4 pm on May 6 to accept human blood donations. Everyone who donates blood will receive a coupon good for discounted emergency veterinary services at IVEC.
Other events and activities include an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 pm, free food and beverages, vendor displays, and a register-to-win area featuring animal-oriented books and videos. “Maxwell,” the new puppy mascot of Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, will be on hand to meet and greet visitors.
All grand opening guests are asked to bring items to donate to three area animal welfare organizations: Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, the Humane Society of Johnson County, and Cats Haven. Items requested include dog and cat foods and treats; rabbit and rodent food; dog and cat toys; cleaning supplies such as bleach, paper towels, trash bags, scrub brushes, buckets, mops, rubber gloves, dish soap and laundry detergent; and animal care supplies including cat litter, nail clippers, brushes, pet shampoo, flea control products, hand sanitizer, and pet carriers.
