IVEC presents nearly a hundred donations to
area animal shelters, groups

Joe Huber, executive director of the Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center (IVEC) kicked off the New Year by presenting dozens of pet supplies, toys and treats to representatives of Molly's Meals, Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (IACC) and the Southside Animal Shelter to conclude its annual holiday collection drive.

"We're extremely grateful that the community has joined forces yet again to help us provide animals with a better quality of life," Huber said. "It's important to remember sheltered animals not only during the holiday season, but all year-round."

Molly's Meals is a program under the wings of the Humane Society of Johnson County. It was created to provide residents of Johnson County who are homebound, on a fixed income, or experiencing temporary financial hardships with pet food, supplies and toys for their beloved pets.

Indianapolis Animal Care & Control enforces all animal-related ordinances in Indianapolis and helps rescue animals in distress or danger on an emergency basis. In 2010, the most serious issue the agency faced was pet overpopulation. IACC cared for approximately 17,750 surrendered, homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected animals.

The mission of Southside Animal Shelter, a private, nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, is to rescue healthy and treatable animals at risk of euthanasia, and then nurture and restore them to have happy healthy lives in loving homes. It is one of the very few area facilities that doesn't limit the amount of time an animal can spend at a shelter.

IVEC would like to thank the Pet Supplies Plus store in Greenwood for partnering with the 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic this year to provide another drop-off site for donations.

IVEC is Central Indiana's original 24-hour emergency and critical care facility, which is well known for its PET-E-911 emergency phone line and the Midwest's first Canine & Feline Blood Donor Program. The clinic is located at 5425 Victory Drive, just south and east of the I-465 & South Emerson Avenue interchange.
