Animal first aid and CPR training scheduled for April 16 at IVEC

Would you know what to do if your pet suffered an unexpected seizure? Do you know how to approach an injured animal without getting hurt yourself?

If not, Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center (IVEC) - Central Indiana's original 24-hour emergency and critical care clinic - wants to teach you.

IVEC medical professionals will present "In An Emergency - Animal First Aid & CPR" on Saturday, April 16 from 9 am to 1 pm. The training session will be held at IVEC's state-of-the-art emergency and critical care clinic, located at 5425 Victory Drive (immediately south and east of the I-465 and South Emerson interchange near Beech Grove).

"The purpose of our first aid and CPR training class is to educate pet owners on how to be prepared for the worst case scenarios we all try to avoid," said Dr. Speiser, owner of IVEC. "Just knowing the basics could help save your pet's life."

Attendees will interact with professionals to learn how to handle emergency situations including head trauma, shock, bleeding, heat stroke, drowning, electric shock, paralysis, and more. Participants also receive instructions on how to muzzle and/or restrain, how to carry and transport, and how to bandage and splint an injured animal.

Vet techs will utilize the "ResusciDog," to demonstrate numerous techniques, including CPR. This life-sized canine mannequin, along with other animals prepared to interact with the class, will provide participants with hands-on experience. Attendees are asked not to bring their own pets to the session.

Doors open for registration at 8:30 am. Cost is $35 per person and includes an animal first aid manual, instruction from experts in emergency veterinary medicine, extensive hands-on training, refreshments, and a tour of the IVEC facility.

Pre-registration and pre-payment by April 8 is required. Checks or credit cards (Master Card, VISA, Discover) will be accepted. Class size is limited. For additional information or to register, call Sara Holtz at BPS Marketing, 317.846.8965.
