IVEC collects pet supplies for local shelters through holidays
If you're an animal lover, don't forget about your furry friends at area animal shelters this holiday season!
Indianapolis Veterinary Emergency Center (IVEC), on the city's southeast side, has partnered with Pet Supplies Plus in Greenwood to gather food, toys and cleaning supplies to benefit Molly's Meals of Johnson County, plus animals currently sheltered by Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (IACC) and Southside Animal Shelter.
"These animals not only need a permanent place to live, but require the basic necessities like food, shampoo and cat litter," said Joe Huber, executive director of IVEC. "The shelters, like any other home, need cleaning supplies, too, like paper towels, trash bags and spray bottles."
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 8-12 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year.
You can assist these local organizations through early January by stopping by either IVEC or Pet Supplies Plus in Greenwood to drop off contributions. IVEC, open 24 hours, is located at 5425 Victory Drive, just south and east of the I-465 & South Emerson Avenue interchange.
The participating Pet Supplies Plus store, 8810 South Emerson Avenue, is next to Kroger off County Line Road, I-65 Exit 101. Its hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.
Items are needed for all types of animals - dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, even horses. According to shelter officials, the holiday wish list this season includes:
Food
Canned dog and cat food, treats, rabbit and rodent food, horse & livestock feed, hay.
Pet Toys
Dog & cat toys, Kongs(TM), sterilized natural beef bones.
Animal Care Supplies
Cat litter, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, pet clippers, grooming brushes, pet carriers, pet beds, nail trimmers, digital thermometers, pet shampoo, flea control products, blankets, towels, fans, hand sanitizer, horse brushes, hoof picks, fly spray, large trash barrels.
Cleaning Supplies
Bleach, paper towels, Lime Away(TM), hoses, scrub brushes, rubber boots, rubber gloves, dish soap, plastic dust pans, brooms & buckets, liquid laundry detergent, mops & scouring pads, large trash bags, spray bottles.
